Starting at UTS

New to UTS? Follow the steps below to help you get started.

Step 1: Accept or defer your offer, activate your UTS email account

Accept or defer your offer and activate your UTS email account by visiting Start @ UTS.

Your UTS email account is the official method of communication between you and UTS. It’s important that you check this regularly because once you are enrolled, we'll mostly contact you by email.

If you wish to defer starting your course, see deferring your course commencement.

Step 2: Login to My Student Admin and set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

My Student Admin is your portal to manage course enrolment, update contact and personal details and apply for government assistance.

  1. Log in to My Student Admin using your UTS student email address and the password you created. If you have forgotten your password, please reset via Forgot your password?  on your UTS email account.
  2. Upon first login to My Student Admin, you’ll be directed to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA protects your account from unauthorised access and enables secure and easy access to UTS systems using single sign-on.

If you are a Commonwealth Supported student or you wish to apply for Commonwealth assistance, ensure that you have a tax file number (opens an external site) to complete your request for:

Select Upfront Fee Paying if you do not have a TFN yet, and submit a new form once TFN is received from ATO before census date. If you do not have a tax file number, visit Australian Taxation Office (opens an external page) for more information.

All previous UTS students need to complete a new form when accepting an offer to a new course.

Recognition of prior learning

If you have undertaken previous tertiary studies, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning. If you wish to apply for recognition of prior learning, see recognition of prior learning for detailed information about eligibility and processing requirements.

Step 3: Subject enrolment

Now you will need to:

Note: The course program provides you with the subject sequence that should be undertaken each session for correct progression through your course.

Step 4: Create your timetable

After enrolling in My Student Admin, visit My Timetable to create your timetable.

The timetable provides you with the teaching period and location of your enrolled courses.

Step 5: Get your Student ID Card

All UTS students are issued a student ID card upon enrolment. Your student ID card enables you to:

  • Establish your identity on campus
  • Access the library and other services
  • Gain access to centrally conducted examination rooms.

You must have your student ID card with you at all times whilst on the UTS campus. See student ID cards for instructions on obtaining your student ID card.

Important: If you fail to collect your student ID card before the last day to enrol, you may be at risk of being withdrawn from your course.

Step 6: Register for orientation

All new students are expected to attend Orientation.

Orientation is designed to give UTS students the essential tools needed to be ready and prepared for day one of formal classes, as well as help students learn how they can enhance their student experience.

Step 7: Check out your course resources

There are a lot of resources available to help you with your course:
